Vertigo: Causes, Symptoms and Chiropractic Treatment
Whatever the cause, vertigo can be debilitating. So… can chiropractic treatment help vertigo!?
In our Wascos-based upper cervical technique office, we now
estimate that one-third of our new patients have vestibular
disorders as their primary complaint. In this article, we have
embedded a video of a patient who is in the recovery
process.
Our hope is that this story will find people that are
searching for a solution to their vertigo issues. Unfortunately,
the grand majority of chronic vertigo sufferers are relegated to
pharmaceutical interventions which never address the CAUSE.
Like many patients who come to our office, Majorie was
suffering from vertigo that was affecting her ability to enjoy
life and was unable to perform all of life's tasks. As you will
hear in the video Majorie suffered from chronic vertigo symptoms
that affected her work, her family, and her
relationships.
There is an old adage that says you don't know what someone is
going through until you have walked in someone else's shoes. Being
chronically ill steals life from the individual and unfortunately,
many people suffer in invisible silence.
Thankfully, many of these cases find upper cervical care, and
following a course of corrective care, many recover their health
and vitality so they can live free once again. How Does The Upper
Neck Cause Vertigo?
The atlas and axis vertebrae at the top of the neck house the
brainstem which is the most vital part of human physiology. One
nucleus that sits inside the brainstem is called the vestibular
nucleus whose job is to coordinate balance in the body.
This nucleus coordinates input from the joints in the neck,
information from the inner ear, and information from the eyes to
produce normal balance in the body. Injury to the upper cervical
spine alters what is known as proprioceptive input from the neck
joints causing the imbalance.
This is why many individuals who suffer from vertigo notice
that certain HEAD MOVEMENTS MAKE THEIR VERTIGO WORSE. When certain
head movements cause dizziness this indicates that vertigo is the
result of neck joint injury.
Getting under precision upper cervical care allows the neck
joints to restore motion, reduce neurological irritation, and
increased balance and health. What Exactly Does a Blair Upper
Cervical Doctor Do?
Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to locate
spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine and correct them.
Spinal misalignment is located by running a battery of neurological
tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and
misaligned by a prior neck injury.
Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray
or cone-beam computed tomography (Cbct) is used to precisely
determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the
misaligned joint.
Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is
used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s
individual misalignment pattern. Once this information is gleaned,
a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or
pulling.
The patient is then monitored overtime to ensure that the
correction is holding. If the testing indicates the need for
another correction, then it is performed. However, the goal of
Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in
“adjustment”.It isn’t the correction that produces healing.
It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment
“holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function
better and proceed through a healing process. This is how Blair
Chiropractic care for Vertigo can aid your body in healing
itself.
If you are suffering from Vertigo or any other chronic
degenerative disease give upper cervical care a chance. You will be
glad you did. In conclusion, we will steal a quote from the
envelope of chiropractic, " nature needs no help just no
interference."
